Prerequisites:

• Taught on Windows
• Prerequisite - Genealogy, Legacy Family Tree 1 & 2.
• Proficiency with mouse, e.g., placing cursor, dragging, clicking, double clicking.
• Basic PC knowledge, e.g., scroll bar, title bar, menu bar, dropdown menu, opening & tiling windows.
• Basic editing knowledge: e.g., backspace, delete, highlight, insert, clipboard, cut & paste.
• Basic internet skills, e.g., searches, window management.
• Ability to manage files & folders, download pictures and back up data.
• Knowledge of basics of creating documents.
• Must be familiar with either Windows 10 or 11.

Objectives:

1. To learn to use Legacy's advanced search features: setting search conditions, multiple conditions, visible tags.
2. To develop sourcing, wall charts and interview techniques.
3. To continue internet searches for finding family genealogy information.

Description:

Legacy Family Tree software, version 9, will be used in the class and taught on Windows 11 computers (www.LegacyFamilyTree.com). This software runs on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 and 11 systems

This Advanced Legacy 9 course provides in-depth practice on many of Legacy's reporting. The students will be presented with a way of writing a genealogy family book using Legacy. Many of the individual reports like Descendants, Family Picture Tree, Chronology, and others will be included in the family book. The students will use Legacy Charting to display the following types of charts: Ancestor, Descendant, DNA, Fan, Hourglass and Bow Tie. For all the various types of charts, many of the options to tailor the chart will be presented. The students will use advanced searching of the Internet to obtain detailed information and sourcing for the class sample family database. Internet sites to be explored for searching for family information will include Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and Rootsweb.com.

This course is taught for Windows 10 and 11 even though the class will be taught on Windows 11 computers
